I wish to use the software on a daily basis to connect two other commercial software packages together. Is it possible to get the software to open as a system tray icon?

Actually you don't need to open VSPK as a system tray icon because once installed and virtual port pair is configured and enabled, this pair will be created at each system startup automatically. So you don't need to create it manually for your commercial software
operation.
